Lightning kills 5 Mexican children in prayer
MEXICO CITY – Five Mexican children were killed when a large metal cross they were praying at was struck by lightning in central Mexico, local media reported Monday.
Five children between 9 and 16 years old died and several others suffered burns when lightning struck a white-painted metal cross set on a hill in the town of Santa Maria del Rio early on Sunday, according to two newspaper reports.
“The lightning went straight into them and killed them instantly,” local Red Cross chief Eduardo Suarez told the daily El Norte.

Defense Team Hired To Represent Miramar Widow
Thirty-two-year-old Cynthia Sommer was flanked by four defense attorneys in a Palm Beach, Florida courtroom Friday. The mother of four children is charged with using arsenic to poison her 23-year-old husband inside their home on the Miramar base back in 2002.
It took more than three years for Navy investigators to charge Sommer with murder. Now, for the past two-and-a-half months, she’s been sitting in a Florida jail.
“Nobody likes being in jail,” lawyer Mark Seiden said. “It’s a very unpleasant place, but considering the circumstances, she’s holding up well.”
Sommer could face the death penalty, that is, if she ever makes it back to San Diego.
She’s charged with special circumstances, of murder by poison, and murder for financial gain. According to court papers, Sommer cashed in on her husband’s $250,000 life insurance policy and them paid $5,400 for breast implants two months after her husband’s death.

A man was trying to cure his newphew of the hiccups by scaring him with a loaded gun. The gun went off and shot the newphew through the neck. He’s dead.

BOGOTA, Colombia—A northern Colombia man tried to startle his nephew from a bout of the hiccups by pointing a gun at him, but accidentally shot him to death, police said yesterday.
The distraught uncle then turned the Smith & Wesson .38 special on himself and committed suicide, said Barranquilla police Lieut. Orlando Valderrama.
This is one that I wanted to post, but I can’t seem to find the link to it any more. Funny none-the-less. A man asked his roommate to move out of his house because he was getting married. The roommate wouldn’t leave, so the groom-to-be did what you or I or anybody else would have done… he stabbed his roommate to death and dismembered his body.

MULTAN, Pakistan – A father, angry that his eldest daughter had married against his wishes, slit her throat as she slept and then killed three of his other daughters in a remote village in eastern Pakistan, police said Saturday.
Nazir Ahmad, a laborer in his 40s, feared the younger girls, aged 4, 8, and 12, would follow in their sister’s footsteps, police officer Shahzad Gul said.
Ahmad surrendered to police after the killings late Friday in Burewala, about 70 miles east of Multan, a main city in eastern Punjab province, Gul said.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 42-year-old man who said he had Christmas gifts for his estranged girlfriend and her two children to get into their home Friday, shot and killed the woman before turning the gun on himself, police told Local 6 News.
Investigators said two girls, ages 13 and 17, showed up at a neighbor’s front door covered in blood after jumping out of a window at their home on Lazy Hill Drive and Crooked Lake near Hiawassee Road.
The teens told a homeowner that their mother’s ex-boyfriend, FanFan Besse, entered the house, tied them up with duct tape and locked them in a room.
